The University of New York Tirana (UNYT), was established in 2002 as part of the New York College (NYC) Educational Institutions Network, and has the distinction of being the first private university in Albania. Since 2018, it has been operating under the umbrella of the Türkiye Maarif Vakfı (TMV), which has 427 educational institutions in 67 countries. The university offers programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels at its campus in the center of Tirana, the capital of Albania. Its most distinctive feature is that it is the only university in Albania that offers an American bachelor's degree awarded by the State University of New York-Empire State College (SUNY/ESC) in addition to the Albanian diploma. Its academic structure includes the Faculty of Business and Economics, the Faculty of Social Sciences and Education, the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture, and the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences. In December 2020, it received a six-year institutional accreditation certificate from the Albanian Ministry of Education and Sports; this period is the highest accreditation period in Albania. UNYT, a member of the European University Association (EUA) and the Balkan Universities Association (BUA), runs international exchange programs with 38 universities from 17 countries. The language of instruction is entirely English.
