Kyrgyzstan-Turkey Manas University (KTMÜ) is a joint state university of Turkey and Kyrgyzstan, established on September 30, 1995, with an intergovernmental agreement signed in İzmir. The university, named after the legendary hero Manas of the Kyrgyz and Turkish world, started its educational life with a language preparatory class in the 1997-1998 academic year. Undergraduate, associate degree, and graduate programs are conducted in 9 faculties, colleges, and vocational schools on its campus in Bishkek. The faculties of Medicine, Engineering, Veterinary Medicine, Economics and Administrative Sciences, Communication, Fine Arts, and Turkology are among the prominent units of the university. The language of instruction is Turkish spoken in Turkey and Kyrgyz Turkish; English and Russian are also taught. The selection of students from Turkey is made by T.C. ÖSYM according to the results of the central examination. The distinguishing feature of KTMÜ is that education is free of charge and students are provided with an entrance quota scholarship, academic achievement scholarship, and dormitory facilities. The university, an autonomous institution with the same status as state universities in Turkey and Kyrgyzstan, is recognized by T.C. YÖK, and its diplomas are equivalent in both countries.
