İzmir Institute of Technology is a state university founded in İzmir in 1992. The institution, where the language of instruction is English, offers undergraduate and graduate programs in the faculties of engineering, science, and architecture. With its research-oriented structure, it focuses on graduate studies. The campus in Urla is located on the Aegean coast among olive groves and houses research laboratories, a library, sports facilities, and student living areas. The Faculty of Engineering includes the departments of chemical, materials, computer, electrical-electronics, food, mechanical, bioengineering, and environmental engineering. The Faculty of Science offers physics, chemistry, mathematics, and molecular biology programs. The technology development zone hosts R&D activities.
