They study the nature and use of the earth's surface areas, relate and interpret the interactions of physical and cultural phenomena. They conduct research on the physical aspects of a region, including its landforms, climates, soils, vegetation, and animals. They also conduct research on the spatial effects of human activities in a given area, including social characteristics, economic activities, and political organization. They examine the interdependence between regions on local and global scales.
